European Union bans manufacture and import of 100W and frosted incandescent bulbs

On the 1st of September 2009 the EU ban on the manufacture and importing of 100W and frosted incandescent lamps came into force. The EU wants these lamps to be replaced with energy efficient version such as LED or CFL.
There is still significant health fears regarding CFL lamps as highlighted by David Price, of Spectrum, an alliance of charities working with people with light-sensitive health conditions. He commented that the government was "disregarding" public concerns over the usage of the new generation of (CFL)bulbs.
